Home Pizza Oven

About what a home pizza oven is and how to adapt your regular oven to making pizza.

Here is a video on how to prepare the dough for the oven.

And now about the oven.

Pizza ovens are hot. Well over 400 degrees Fahrenheit and sometimes around 500.

And they rely on bottom heat to bake the crust.

You can use only a pizza pan with bottom heat in the oven. A pizza stone of some form is best.

You can buy a pizza stone at a place like Amazon ( For example Old Stone Oven 4467 14-Inch by 16-Inch Baking Stone ) or you can make one of your own. We have a piece of thin, flat granite that we cut - using our angle grinder like this one at Amazon Bosch 1375A 4-1/2-Inch Angle Grinder - to fit the oven. The granite came from a floor tile shop - out of the leftover, chipped inventory that they could not sell.

Using a convection oven, we put the stone on a wire rack and heat the oven to 200 Centigrade ( F). When it gets to temperature, we start forming the pizza.

Since we have "Friday Pizza Night" nearly every week of the year, we have gone one step further and make a paddle and pizza cutting board from some thin laminated wood.

Once the dough is formed, some cornmeal is put on the paddle, the dough put on the cornmeal and the topping added.

The pizza goes into the oven quickly, easily, safely, and without dropping oven temperature much.

And taking it out is also very easy.

Baking time is about 10 minutes.
